Raingutter Gardens from GROW design+build

We created hanging gardens for a variety of spaces using salvaged raingutters. We created two for a very small outdoor courtyard in Berkeley. They could not afford to give up floorspace for a garden, but needed some softening of the post-industrial vibe of the space…

We started finding these amazing raingutters in salvage yards a few years ago. Most are over 75 years old, they are made from a single 20′ long piece of old growth redwood. Although they have been exposed to the elements for decades, they are only rotted on the ends. The redwood likely lived in the area for hundreds of years. After it was milled, it literally absorbed every storm and heat wave to pass through the bay area for 75 years. The wood is beautiful straight grain and will likely last for another 20 years as a garden.

We made custom raingutter gardens for a number of of businesses throughout the Bay Area, including Local 123 cafe in Berkeley, L’Atalier Spa and L’Atalier Salon in Santa Cruz and the Boomerang Project offices in Santa Cruz.
